Laurie Grissom Congratulations to Cake Pros member Laurie Grissom, who took second place in the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association’s™ (IDDBA) 11th annual Cake Decorating Challenge held at the Dairy-Deli-Bake 2006 seminar and expo in Orlando, FL, June 11-13 and sponsored by Rich’s. Laurie has been decorating cakes since she was a little girl helping her mom, a professional cake decorator. Laurie has been decorating cakes professionally for more than 15 years, and has been at Wal-Mart for four years. What’s Laurie’s favorite part of cake decorating? “It’s always the next thing someone gives me that will challenge me,” says Laurie. And she’s been challenged! One customer requested a cake in the shape of a giant cell phone. Another customer, celebrating the birthday of her husband, a plumber, wanted a cake shaped like a toilet, complete with blue water and inscribed, “Happy ‘turdieth’ birthday…let’s ‘potty!’” Laurie’s been a Cake Pro member for more than a year, and says she loves the creative ideas and suggestions she gets from the newsletter, the website and the regular email blasts. And she’s determined to come in first place next year in the IDDBA Cake Decorating Challenge. Congratulations Laurie!
