Cake Pros Spotlight
Welcome to the Cake Pros® Spotlight, where, we'll introduce you to one of our cake pros right here on the Cake Pros Decorators' Club website. It'll be a great chance to learn more about your fellow cake decorators.
“Rebecca is a true artist who can take any idea and turn it into a beautiful cake,” says Rebecca’s supervisor, Phyllis Brady, who nominated Rebecca for our Cake Pros® Spotlight. “I often give her an idea for a wedding cake and then just can’t wait to see what she creates. It is always far above anything I may have imagined!”
Rebecca has been a professional cake decorator for just 10 years, and has shown a true gift for creating wonderful cakes. According to Phyllis, Rebecca had never used the rolled fondant icing until just over a year ago, yet she placed in the silver category of the prestigious Tulsa State Fair Sugar Art Show with the Scottish cake she designed (featured in the photo with Rebecca).
As Harps Food Stores’ cake decorator trainer, Rebecca travels from store to store training and filling in where needed. Department managers and decorators are always asking for her, which is a testament to her ability to teach and get along with others. “She’s not only creative and has a great sense of humor,” says Phyllis, “but she displays a tremendous work ethic as well. I don’t know what we’d do without her!”
Rebecca says her favorite part about being a cake decorator is creating unique designs, and she particularly likes working with sheet cakes. A Cake Pros® member since last July, Rebecca says she really enjoys the quarterly newsletters and ideas. And she offered this tip: use a note card or a cut piece of cake collar to smooth 3-D shapes. “It takes some of the ‘GRRR!’ factor out of the process,” says Rebecca.
