Featured Decorator Tracy Blake Bakery Manager Price Chopper Plattsburgh, New York Tracy Blake has worked for Price Chopper for 18 years. She became a cake decorator when a position opened up that would allow her to go from part-time to full-time. She’d never taken a decorating class in her life, but learned quickly by watching the other talented decorators. Today, she absolutely loves her job. “I enjoy being able to decorate so many different cakes,” says Tracy. “From birthday cakes to wedding cakes to decadent and elegant cakes – they’re all so different. It’s never boring, it’s always fun.” Tracy says wedding cakes are her favorite because she enjoys “adding to someone’s very special day.” And she’s done some special wedding cakes, including ones incorporating real flowers and even waterfalls. Tracy was nominated for the Cake Pros Spotlight by Bill Carter, Rich’s Technical Specialist for the Northeast Region. “Tracy is very in tune with her customers and is always coming up with great ways to promote different cake designs. She did a phenomenal job with the Cake Safari,” says Bill, who adds that “Cake Pros is a great resource and the pro decorators I talk with who belong really enjoy it.” Her favorite Rich’s product to work with? “I love Bettercreme!” says Tracy. “When you’re decorating cakes all day long, it’s great to work with because it’s so light and fluffy. And I love all the colors it comes in.” Tracy and her staff recently competed in a chain-wide “Cake Safari Program” and came out the winners! They created a jungle-themed display complete with stuffed animals and tropical plants and many different types of cakes. Numbers were placed all around the floor and announcements made in the store at specific times. Customers then participated in a “cake walk,” where they were able to win cakes and cupcakes of their choice. “It was a lot of fun and very well-received by our customers,” says Tracy.
